Tom Cannon now looks set to remain at Sheffield United this season despite interest elsewhere in the forward
Despite having largely struggled to hit the back of the net in a Sheffield United shirt since his arrival at Bramall Lane in January 2025, Tom Cannon now looks set to remain with the Blades beyond the upcoming winter window amid interest in the forward from elsewhere.
According to Alan Nixon, Sheffield United attacker Tom Cannon looks set to stay with the Blades for the remainder of the season, with head coach Chris Wilder keen to keep a hold of the former Leicester City and Stoke City man.
Indeed, Cannon was signed by the Blades last January from Leicester for around £10 million, having shone in the first half of the 2024/25 season on loan with Stoke, grabbing nine goals and one assist in 22 Championship games for the Potters before his move.
Upon his arrival at Bramall Lane, Wilder said: "This is a big statement by the owners and shows the ambition of the football club.
"He is of a good age to develop but also has the experience of this level, both important factors. I spoke to Tom in the summer, he's aware that I am a big fan of his talents, I'm delighted he is a Blade and part of our longer-term vision."
It was hoped that the Englishman would be the man to fire the Blades to promotion, but as it transpired, Cannon would largely struggle in a Sheffield United shirt.

Cannon would finish the 2024/25 season with just one goal and one assist in 15 league matches for Sheffield United, as the Blades lost out to Sunderland in the play-off final, residing them to another season in the Championship.
Wilder was dismissed in the summer and replaced by former Reading and Hull City boss Ruben Selles, who himself lasted just six games in charge before Wilder was then brought back for his third separate stint at the club.
Cannon had failed to net under Selles, and until very recently had failed to do so under Wilder too, having scored just once in 30 league games for the club prior to netting away against city rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
The Everton academy graduate would net in the following game against former club Leicester, with the Blades finally starting to hit form, having won each of their last four outings after thumping Stoke 4-0 at the weekend.
Now, it appears as though Wilder is keen to keep Cannon beyond January despite his struggles and interest from elsewhere, as the Blades look to climb the table away from the relegation zone and back into the top-six picture.

Cannon looks likely to stay with Sheffield United for at least the rest of the season as the Blades look to rescue their campaign.
Despite this, the 22-year-old is still not a nailed-on starter at Bramall Lane, competing for places with the likes of Patrick Bamford, Tyrese Campbell, Danny Ings, and Louie Barry in attacking areas.
Though Cannon's ability is undeniable, having proven himself as a more than capable goalscorer at second-tier level in his loans with Preston North End and Stoke, things have yet to seemingly click with the Blades.
Wilder will be hoping he can get the best out of his £10 million man sooner rather than later, with the club looking to make calls of relegation a distant memory and push for the top-six by the end of the year.
Cannon will likely play a crucial role in the Blades' top-six ambitions this campaign, whether that be from the bench or from the start, as he finally begins to look at home in Sheffield United colours.
