Cristian Chivu has already begun reshaping Inter Milan with impact across three fundamental areas — and the results are visible. After their 1-0 win over Roma, we look at three reasons why the Romanian has provided the club a fresh breath of air.
Chivu has prioritised verticality in Inter’s approach, pushing the team to press higher and build quicker attacks. Gazzetta notes that the defensive line is now positioned roughly eight metres higher compared to the previous season, which has unlocked new space for attacking plays and changed the team’s rhythm. The shift was evident in the recent win over Roma, showcasing a more direct, dynamic side of the Nerazzurri.
2. Key Players Regenerated
Two players in particular, Nicolò Barella and Federico Dimarco, have flourished under Chivu’s system. Barella has been dominant in midfield, putting up standout stats in tackles, recoveries and forward passes. Meanwhile, Dimarco has played extended minutes after a period of uncertainty and emerged as a significant attacking full-back once again. Chivu’s confidence in both has re-energised their performances.
Defensively, Inter have tightened up significantly. After conceding four goals to Juventus earlier, the team has since kept two clean sheets in the Champions League and conceded only two goals in four Serie A matches. Chivu’s organisation and trust in his defenders — particularly Stefan de Vrij, Milan Škriniar and Alessandro Bastoni — have brought the “double-barrier” solidity back to Inter’s back-line.
With these three pillars in place, Chivu’s early reign looks like more than just a reset — it’s a revival. Inter are no longer just recovering from past setbacks; they’re building forward.
