How the cost of Burnley's home shirt compares to that of their Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End

For the people of Lancashire, football comes before pretty much anything else, and arguably the three biggest clubs in the region are all currently competing against each other in the Championship.

As far as bragging rights go this season, they're currently shared, as all three meetings so far this term between Burnley, Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End have been drawn.

In terms of bragging rights over a larger period of time, it's Burnley who've had the recent edge in that sense, playing in the top-flight more recently than Blackburn, while Preston have never competed in the Premier League.

It's Blackburn who have the trophy everyone craves, as they're the only side of these three to have won the Premier League, although both Burnley and Preston have won the top division before football was revamped with the introduction of the Premier League.

Off the pitch, none of the three towns or cities these teams hail from are particularly the most affluent areas, so following the team is at times a struggle for the fans.

The pricing of shirts comes into that, and here we take a look at how these three teams price their shirts in comparison to each other.

How much Burnley's home shirt costs in comparison to Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End

For as long as the younger portion of Burnley fans will remember, the club have always had their kits manufactured by Umbro, but have recently switched to Castore for this season - the same company who produce Preston's kit.

An adult mens home shirt will set you back £60 at Burnley, which is an increase on what Umbro charged last season, although it's widely accepted the better design warrants the increase in price.

Unsurprisingly, given they're manufactured by the same company, and have been since the start of the 2023/24 season, Preston's home shirt is also priced up to £60 in men's sizes.

Blackburn fans probably wince at the sight of £60 for one of their rivals' shirts, as their fans are paying the least to don their side's top, with their club shop charging £56 for this season's home shirt in men's sizes.

The caveat to that is perhaps that Rovers' kits are manufactured by Macron, who most would accept aren't quite as well-known as Castore are.

Quality doesn't necessarily match the price of Burnley and Preston North End's shirts

Although Burnley and Preston are charging almost 10% more for this season's home shirt than Blackburn are, that doesn't mean that their fans are getting value for money when it comes to those shirts.

Castore have manufactured kits for high-level clubs, Newcastle and Aston Villa, and with fanbases much larger than these three clubs, drew plenty of criticism for the standard of their kits.

Newcastle eventually dropped Castore in favour of a move to Adidas, with that decision reportedly owing to the quality of their kits after numerous fan complaints, while after complaining about wet-look kits, Aston Villa also switched to Adidas.

Castore have dealt with their fair share of criticism with the quality of shirts they sell, so £60 for a Burnley or Preston top seems a little unjust, and Blackburn fans will feel they have the better end of the deal, paying £56 for what it seems is a better quality shirt.
