Bayern Munich will have a much clearer idea of whether they can sign Nico Schlotterbeck come the new year.
Sport Bild now reports that there remains optimism the German national will put pen to paper on a new deal.
However, decision-makers at Borussia Dortmund are keenly aware of the fact that the likes of Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Real Madrid are circling.

The simple fact of the matter is that Schlotterbeck isn’t providing nearly enough encouragement with regard to his BVB future.
That’s understandable, of course, with a significant portion of Europe’s elite clubs keen on Schlotterbeck’s signature.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool, for instance, may yet seek to test the waters in the January transfer window amid their ongoing defensive struggles.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, will be in need of two new centre-halves come the summer, given that both David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger are expected to depart on free transfers.
And while Europe’s elite weigh up their transfer options, fans can invest time in checking out off-pitch opportunities like the Irish no deposit offers featured on Casinos.com.
Nico Schlotterbeck, with a contract expiring in June 2027, would then represent superb value for money next year. Albeit the 25-year-old doesn’t perfectly fit the bill of a “freebie” for a club that tends to favour free agents to bolster its backline.

Even should Schlotterbeck open himself up to Bayern interest in an upcoming window, there’s still every chance that Vincent Kompany may have to play the patient game.
That’s for the simple reason that Dortmund may look to commit the former Freiburg man to fulfil the final year of his contract.
That is, of course, in the event BVB feel they have a team capable of challenging Bayern for the Bundesliga title in 2026/27. At the present time, it very much looks like a title destined to stay put in Munich this term.
It’s hardly a scenario Europe’s elite will be unfamiliar with, given that Liverpool missed out on fellow Bayern target Marc Guehi in the summer for the very same reason.
With it remaining unclear if Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano will still be wearing Bayern red in the summer, however, the opportunity presented by the Englishman is increasingly appealing.
Especially so if Dortmund pull out all the stops to keep Nico Schlotterbeck at Signal Iduna Park for the foreseeable.
