In an injury-hit season, the Potters suffered relegation to the Championship and the central defender featured just 19 times.

Proceeding to feature 37 and 33 times in the next two seasons, Martins Indi then embarked on a loan spell at AZ Alkmaar early on during the 2020/21 Eredivisie season.

Playing an integral role as the Dutch side managed to finish in third place and qualify for the Europa League, Martins Indi made his move permanent early on in the summer of 2021.

In the following campaign, the defender played 45 times in all competitions with AZ eventually finishing the domestic campaign in fifth place, whilst they managed to reach the last 16 of the Europa Conference League.

Remaining at AZ for the 2022/23 campaign and wearing the captain's armband at the start of the season, the Dutch defender has been limited to just four league appearances thus far because of a groin injury before picking up a thigh injury.

The centre-back has also impressed on the international stage, having represented the Netherlands close to 30 times during his youth career.

Progressing into his nation's senior set up in 2012, Martins Indi has played 36 times since then and has even racked up a few appearances in the Nations League last year.

Enjoying over four years at the Bet 365 Stadium, Martins Indi played 137 games in all competitions for the Staffordshire club, managing two goals and two assists in that time too.
