Graeme Shinnie spent nearly three years at Derby County and racked up nearly 100 appearances for the Rams but with the ongoing situation at Pride Park, the Scotland man was allowed to depart in the winter window.

On the hunt for pastures new, he found it at Wigan, who are currently battling near the top of League One. He has come in and featured almost immediately for the Latics – and considering the fee that the side snagged him for, he could prove to be a real bargain.

The 30-year-old has slotted nicely into the midfield at the DW Stadium so far and is already a regular – so how has he got on since the move?

The answer is – really well. He took a little bit of time to adjust but is now thriving for the side. He started his first Wigan game on the bench as an unused substitute and then made his first start against Gillingham. Although his new team won, he didn’t set the world alight in that first clash.

However, he has since been rock solid in the centre of the field for Leam Richardson’s side. Against Cheltenham, he and Tom Naylor helped dictate the play in the centre of the field and broke up plenty of the opposition attacks during the course of the tie. In the fixture against Oxford, he also had more tackles than anyone else on the field and showed he isn’t afraid to put a foot in.

Against Sheffield Wednesday in defeat, he was the most accurate passer on the field to play at least a half of football. At 30-years-old he is showing he can still do the business at the top end of the third tier then and Wigan will be glad to have a real asset on their hands in their bid for promotion in the second half of the campaign.
