The Premier League loan market is one that Blackpool certainly used to considerable effect during the summer transfer window.

In the end, no fewer than five players joined the Seasiders on a temporary basis, from five different Premier League clubs by the time the market had closed.

One of those who did complete a loan move to Bloomfield Road for the remainder of the season, was Liverpool centre back Rhys Williams.

For Williams, that move to Blackpool represents another chance for him to show just what he can do in the Championship.

Last season saw the Wales international spend an ill-fated temporary spell in the second-tier with Swansea after joining in the summer of 2021, managing just five league appearances before being recalled by Liverpool in January.

However, this spell with Blackpool does at least look to be going rather better for the 21-year-old, certainly from an individual perspective.

Since completing his move to Blackpool, Williams has started all eight Championship games played by the Seasiders this season, meaning he has already moved past the total number of games he played during that spell with Swansea, while we are still only in September.

During his time in the Blackpool side, Williams has managed to form an effective central defensive partnership with Marvin Ekpiteta.

So far, Blackpool have conceded ten goals in their eight league games so far, while they have also managed to three cleans sheets with Williams in their back line.

That has helped them to three wins and a total of ten points from their league matches so far, which has them sat 11th in the current Championship standings, as they look to retain their status in the division, in what is their second season back at that level after promotion.

Judging by how things have gone since the start of the campaign, it looks as though Williams is going to have a significant part to play in their efforts to do that, following his solid performances and regular run in the starting lineup.

Following the frustration of what happened at Swansea last season, you get the feeling that is exactly what is needed for the centre back, from the perspective of all concerned.
