Junior Firpo was delighted with Patrick Bamford's contribution from the bench as Leeds United beat Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
Junior Firpo has heaped praise on Leeds United teammate Patrick Bamford after the striker impressed from the bench in the win over Middlesbrough.
After an inconsistent run, it felt like a pivotal night in the automatic promotion race on Tuesday night, as the Whites won at the Riverside Stadium, whilst Sheffield United and Burnley both dropped points, meaning Daniel Farke’s men are back at the top of the table.
Even though it was a narrow margin of victory, it didn’t tell the whole story, as Leeds had two goals wrongly disallowed for offside after Dan James’ opener.
The second of those came from Bamford, who was introduced in the 73rd minute in place of Joel Piroe, who had struggled to make an impact.
Despite his limited time on the pitch, Bamford was a constant threat against his former club, and his cool finish from a well-timed run was wrongly chalked off.
As well as that, he held the ball up well, particularly in added time as Leeds battled to hold on for the points.
And, his contribution was certainly appreciated by Firpo, as the left-back took to Instagram to reply to a message from Bamford that reflected on the win, which was also his 200th outing in a Leeds shirt.
“It (is) just so great to have you back tbf.”
That gives an indication that Bamford remains a very popular figure in the dressing room, even if he hasn’t had the game time he would’ve wanted this season.
Overall, this campaign has been hugely frustrating for Bamford, who has yet to find the net in 12 Championship appearances, which have all come from the bench.
Once again, injuries have hindered his impact, but, even when available, Farke has preferred Piroe and Mateo Joseph on the whole.
But, last night was a reminder of the ability Bamford has got. At his best, he is superb at linking play, he will run the channels, and he can finish well in front of goal.
Of course, one sub appearance doesn’t change anything, but if Leeds do have a motivated and fit Bamford for the final five games, he can make an impact.
