The biggest concern for all connected to the club is to ensure they avoid an embarrassing relegation to League One, but, even if they do stay up, it’s clear major changes are required at the King Power Stadium moving forward.

Supporters are understandably furious at the way the club is operating, and, despite a recent restructuring, the owner has lost a lot of trust from the majority of fans.

Leicester City ready to cash in on Adbul Fatawu this summer

The Foxes’ off-field issues were highlighted in their recent accounts, as the club announced losses in excess of £70m.

Whilst it has been reported that the club are ‘confident’ they will not be sanctioned again for breaching financial rules, it’s clear that this is something that they must address.

On that front, Telegraph journalist John Percy has revealed that Leicester are now expected to go back to their previous model of selling a ‘star player’ every summer in order to help balance the books.

Furthermore, he states that Abdul Fatawu is expected to depart this summer regardless of whether the team survives, with the Ghana international seen as the biggest asset in the current Leicester squad.

Even though Leicester are struggling, Fatawu has had a positive individual campaign, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists so far, which is why he will have admirers.

The update explains that he is on the radar of ‘Premier League clubs and promotion contenders in the Championship’.

Sunderland made a move to sign Fatawu back in the summer, whilst FLW exclusively confirmed that Wolves are tracking the 22-year-old as they prepare for life in the second tier next season.

Leicester City need a strategy in place to build long-term success

Leicester’s accounts make for grim reading, and it’s not something that they are going to be able to address overnight.

Obviously, massive mistakes have been made over the years in terms of recruitment, squad management and the wages they’re paying players.

As outlined above, even if they do remain a Championship club, major changes need to be made, and that must come from owner Khun Top in building a structure that can last.

It’s not that long ago that Leicester were the envy of many clubs in England for how they were run, and they need to try and get back to that.

In truth, news of Fatawu’s likely exit won’t come as a shock, because he has the talent to play for clubs higher up, but the challenge for Leicester is to get as big a fee as possible for their star man.

Then, they need to reinvest the funds they can wisely, and the recruitment simply has to improve as they have wasted so much money over the past few years.

Ultimately, it’s somewhat encouraging that Leicester recognise they need to go back to their previous model, and Fatawu should fetch a decent fee.

But, Foxes’ fans won’t have trust in the hierarchy to get things right, so it will be interesting to see how this summer plays out once Leicester know what division they will be in.
