As Daniel Farke's side prepare for their return to the Premier League, they are looking to build a squad that is capable of bucking the recent trend of promoted clubs going straight back down to the Championship after just one season in the top flight.

Leicester felt the full wrath of being a second-tier title-winner last season, when they convincingly fell short of the first division's very high standard.

Some of the Foxes players did seem to be up to the level, including some who had never played in England before. El Khannouss, a Moroccan international, adapted well to the British conditions, and has attracted top flight interest off the back of it.

Leeds, according to The Athletic, have been considering the 21-year-old, who played both as a number 10 and on the left for Leicester last season, but he is not a player that the Whites are currently putting their efforts into trying to sign.

Relegation opened up the Foxes to a bigger threat of losing El Khannouss this summer. Their drop to the Championship activated a £22.5 million release clause, as per Sacha Tavolieri.

Other clubs like Wolves, Sunderland and Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked with the Moroccan following his maiden spell in the Premier League. Across the campaign, he only notched five direct goal contributions, but that was for a side that really struggled to score after Christmas.

Leicester are in a position where they'll need to offload some players to allow their new boss, Marti Cifuentes, to rebuild their squad in his image.

Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is another candidate to be offloaded. West Ham have been linked with the 25-year-old Dane. He struggled with injuries last season and only kept one clean sheet for the Foxes in league matches.

Conor Coady could move to Rangers. He reportedly didn't want to go to Austria for the club's pre-season tour because he wanted to move to Ibrox, but he has made the trip and he started their first match of the tour.

Unlike Hermansen, Leicester aren't in a position where they can hold strong with El Khannouss. That release clause is there for any club to activate if they want to, so they need to be mentally prepared to not have him next season.
