Liverpool head into the festive weekend full of confidence as they prepare to welcome struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield.
While Wolves remain stuck at the bottom of the Premier League table, the mood around Merseyside could hardly be more different.
Liverpool may have spent Christmas Day outside the top four, but recent results suggest they are firmly back on track.
Another win against struggling Wolves will boost their confidence even more.
A narrow 2-1 win away to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend capped a strong run of form for Arne Slot’s side, who have now won three matches in a row in all competitions.
Those victories have also brought back-to-back league wins for the first time since September, while the Reds are now unbeaten in six games across all competitions (W4, D2).
Liverpool seem to come alive during the festive period and will be keen to maintain their excellent record at Anfield at this time of the year.
They couldn’t have been handed a more straightforward fixture than Wolves, with the Premier League whipping boys heading for a historically horrendous campaign.
Alisson is expected to start in goal, with an unchanged back four of Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Milos Kerkez ahead of the Brazilian goalkeeper.
Curtis Jones will partner with Ryan Gravenberch at the base of midfield, while Alexis Mac Allister pushes into the number 10 role.
Cody Gakpo should return to the XI after missing Liverpool’s last three games, while Florian Wirtz takes Dominik Szoboszlai’s spot on the right flank.
The “unbelievable” midfielder will serve a one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards after picking up a booking against Spurs.
