Tottenham Hotspur have been in the top division since 1978-79. With 12 games left this season they sit 16th, five points above 18th-placed West Ham after eight league matches without a win. If they drop, it would arguably be the most notable relegation since Manchester United in 1973-74.

The dismissal of Thomas Frank and the interim appointment of Igor Tudor may bring an upturn, but the risk remains. NY Times sets out how long each current Premier League club has been in the top flight and when they last went down.
