Lois Openda has finally opened his scoring account for Olympique Lyon, with the Belgian needing three full games to find the net. It appears that this could be a successful loan spell for him, which is what everyone at Juventus will want.
He signed for Juventus a year ago, but the only season he spent at the club was an unsuccessful one, which explains why he has now been sent out on loan. He does not suit Luciano Spalletti’s style, and the Bianconeri manager has not been patient enough to allow him to improve, instead moving on to other strikers he can trust.
Before moving to Juve, Openda enjoyed successful spells in France and Germany, and he could still rediscover his form, especially now that he is back in Ligue 1.
Tuttojuve says there is a difference between how Openda was used in Turin and how he is being used in France, with his loan manager giving him more time on the pitch and greater freedom to express himself.
In the three games Openda has played for Lyon, he has completed each match, while the manager has also given him greater freedom to lead the press from the front. That responsibility could help him regain the confidence and consistency he struggled to find at Juventus.
Having enough time on the pitch has allowed Openda to build momentum, and his first goal for Lyon should provide another boost. The Belgian now has the opportunity to establish himself as an important player during his loan spell.
The difference in his role could prove important for Openda, particularly after a difficult season at Juventus. Regular minutes and greater responsibility may give him the platform he needs to rediscover the form he showed before joining the Bianconeri.
At Juventus, he struggled to start matches regularly or remain on the pitch for long enough to build momentum. Lyon are giving him precisely that opportunity, and his opening goal could be the beginning of a much more consistent spell.
If Openda continues receiving regular playing time and freedom, he could yet turn his loan into a successful one. For the Belgian, the priority now will be to maintain his momentum and show that he can still perform at a high level in Ligue 1.
