Looking to build on their routine victory in midweek, Manchester City welcome Bournemouth to Etihad Stadium for a mouth-watering Premier League showdown on Sunday evening.
City made amends for their dismal 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa in Birmingham by pouring their anger on Championship strugglers Swansea City in the EFL Cup.
The Cityzens were pegged back early on, but they came back to win 3-1 away to the Welsh club, courtesy of goals from Jeremy Doku, Omar Marmoush, and Rayan Cherki.
City are undoubtedly facing a much stronger test this weekend, but they’ll fancy their chances of maintaining their impeccable record against the Cherries.
The Cityzens have won their last eight Premier League home games against Bournemouth, scoring 31 goals and conceding just five.
Guardiola has been handed a massive double boost ahead of this weekend’s six-pointer at the Etihad.
The Spanish manager confirmed during his pre-match press conference that Erling Braut Haaland and Rodri are on track to feature against Bournemouth this Sunday.
Both players will be named in the City squad, with Guardiola expected to ring the changes.
After temporarily relinquishing his role in goal, Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to return to the XI to face the Cherries in place of James Trafford.
The Italian shot-stopper will likely be protected by a defensive unit that could include Mathues Nunes, John Stones, Ruben Dias, and Josko Gvardiol.
Rodri’s return is a massive boost for Guardiola and City, although the Spanish manager admitted that his compatriot may not be fit enough to start the game.
While the “unbelievable” midfielder will likely get minutes at some point in the game, Nico Gonzalez could be named in the starting XI in his place.
That could push Tijjani Reijnders further up the pitch into a more advanced role, where he’ll likely be joined by Savinho, Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva.
Foden will be looking to mark his 200th Premier League appearance with a sublime performance, while Haaland has returned in time to lead the line against Bournemouth.
