Port Vale have sold out their 6,000 ticket allocation as they head to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge this weekend

Port Vale will be backed by a packed-out support when they travel to the capital on Saturday to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with the Valiants hoping to cause a historic upset.

It hasn't been an ideal season at Vale Park, with Port Vale sitting at the bottom of the League One table with just eight games to go and relegation all but confirmed, yet this year could still prove to be a memorable one.

Despite their league position, Vale have made their home a fortress in the FA Cup, with each of Maldon and Tiptree, Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood Town, Bristol City, and Sunderland all travelling to Burslem and leaving with their tails between their legs.

Now, remarkably, Jon Brady's side find themselves one game away from Wembley, but first, they must travel to the capital to face Liam Rosenior's Chelsea side.

Realistically, there will be few Vale fans expecting anything other than a defeat in this fixture, but having proven they can topple a Premier League outfit this campaign, some will be daring to dream, as the Stamford Bridge away end will be filled to the brim.

Despite averaging just 7,432 home fans at Vale Park this season, as per Transfermarkt, Vale have sold out their 6,000 away allocation in the capital on Saturday, with the away end set to be packed with white, black, and amber colours.

The last time Vale travelled to a Premier League side was just over six years ago, when they fell to a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City, a game which they actually led at one stage courtesy of a Tom Pope header, sending over 8,000 away fans into raptures that day.

Although the away support will be hoping for a more positive result this time around, that moment will live long in the memory of many, as they pray for similar limbs this Saturday.

Vale and Chelsea have met on 14 occasions before, albeit their last time gracing the pitch together was nearly a century ago, back in 1929, with the Valiants securing their only victory in those meetings; now, nearly 100 years later, the Blues will be vying for revenge.

The League One outfit has nothing to lose and everything to gain, and whilst a result cannot be guaranteed, what can be is the sheer amount of noise belting out from the away end this weekend, as 6,000 from Burslem make their way to the capital.

FA Cup run has been a shining light on a dark season for Port Vale

With just three home league wins this season, Vale have actually won more times at Vale Park in the FA Cup this campaign than they have in the third tier, leaving supporters with little to shout about.

Darren Moore's tenure ended in disaster, and whilst the appointment of Brady has provided them with the platform for victories over Bristol City and Sunderland, it has done little to bring about any sort of revival in terms of their league form.

Relegation is a foregone conclusion, unfortunately for the Stoke-on-Trent-based outfit, though this torrid campaign could still have a silver lining, with the chance to book their place at Wembley and create history.

The last time a side in the third or fourth tier made it to the final four of the FA Cup was Wycombe Wanderers back in 2001, and 25 years later, Vale have the opportunity to write their name in the history book.

To say the odds are against them would be an understatement, but backed by 6,000 noisy supporters, the magic of the FA Cup could produce one more trick for Vale.
