Blues' 3-1 home defeat to Middlesbrough on Monday left them eight points adrift of the Championship play-offs with just 11 second-tier fixtures remaining.

The ambitious ownership of Knighthead Capital Management has ensured that Chris Davies' men are hunting a top-six place, despite winning the League One title last season.

Meanwhile, Ducksch had hoped to inspire a comeback effort when he scored to reduce Birmingham's deficit against Boro to 3-1, but David Strelec's goal on the hour mark took the game away from Blues.

Blues have now suffered two consecutive defeats in the Championship, having lost 3-0 to Millwall at The Den last Wednesday, leaving their play-off chances looking increasingly slim.

Striker Ducksch wrote on Instagram on Tuesday: "A tough week. But we still never give up! All together."

The 31-year-old's goal against Boro marked his second strike in three games, as his effort against Norwich City on 21 February sent Birmingham on their way to a 2-1 victory.

Blues will hope to get back to winning ways this month, with upcoming fixtures against Charlton Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, and Derby County.

Marvin Ducksch could thrive for Birmingham City next season

When Birmingham signed Ducksch from Werder Bremen last summer, Davies' side hoped that the Germany international would be prolific in the Championship.

He notched eight goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga last term, suggesting that he could produce even better numbers in the second tier of English football.

Ducksch has managed a respectable return of 10 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions for Blues, but he took a long time to establish strong form.

The 31-year-old failed to score until notching a brace in a 4-1 win against Norwich on 22 November, and found himself on the scoresheet once more four days later, this time in a 1-1 draw with local rivals West Bromwich Albion.

However, Ducksh wouldn't score again until bagging two goals against fellow West Midlands side Coventry City in a somewhat unlikely 3-2 triumph on 4 January.

The former Werder Bremen man has scored seven goals across all competitions since the turn of the year, suggesting that he has finally adjusted to the English game.

Consequently, Ducksch could be a stronger asset for Birmingham next season, meaning that Davies' side could land a Championship play-off spot at the second time of asking if they miss out on the top six this time around.

For now, though, the Germany international will be keen to maintain his current run of form, and Charlton defenders should be worried by his threat this Saturday.

Regarding the play-off battle this season, Blues' successive defeats at the hands of Millwall and Middlesbrough have likely given them too much to do, but Ducksch could be at the heart of matters if they do land an unlikely top-six finish.

Such an eventuality would require significant slip-ups from the likes of Wrexham, Southampton, and Derby.
