It has been a very busy summer for Blues following their promotion to the Championship, with the bulk of their business done earlier in the window.

However, with the deadline fast approaching, they are still in the market for new recruits, and FLW exclusively revealed last week that Yang was a target.

Birmingham still hoping to finalise £3m transfer for Celtic’s Yang Hyun-jun

Since then, discussions have been ongoing over a deal, although the situation has been complicated by Celtic’s failure to bring in replacements for the South Korean.

Even with the addition of Michel-Ange Balikwisha, the Glasgow giants are still short of quality options out wide, but they are working to do deals behind the scenes.

If reinforcements arrive, Yang could be allowed to leave, and Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph revealed that the two clubs are close to agreeing a fee that is worth an initial £3m, with further talks taking place over any odd-ons.

The update adds that Blues are waiting for Celtic to fully approve the move, and there is even a possibility that Yang could travel down south to Birmingham to undergo a medical tonight.

Yang was an unused substitute during Celtic’s 0-0 draw at bitter rivals Rangers on Sunday afternoon, and he could have played his final match for the Glasgow outfit already.

Yang Hyun-jun would add squad depth out wide at Birmingham City

It was telling that Brendan Rodgers didn’t turn to Yang in the draw at Rangers, as Celtic were woeful going forward but he still didn’t bring him on, indicating that a move may be close.

In truth, Yang has been inconsistent during his time at Parkhead, and it’s unlikely that he is going to go straight into the XI at Birmingham.

But, he will give Chris Davies a player who can play down either flank, and he is a direct, quick winger who will provide a threat if he can find his best form.

Blues aren’t exactly short on quality in the final third, but another player would be welcome, and Davies knows that the Championship is a long, hard slog, and it tests your squad, so you need to be equipped for that.

At £3m, Blues will see this as a relatively low-risk move, so they will hope that Celtic are ready to sanction the transfer, as it’s out of their hands right now.
