Considering how well the Sky Blues are doing this season, only four other Championship clubs are estimated to be spending less on their weekly payrolls.

So, it’s fair to say they have put every team that apparently spends more than them to shame. Even still, the position they find themselves in now is a far cry from the threat of liquidation and points deduction in 2013.

Using Capology estimates, we will also look at how much the West Midlands club pay their highest - and lowest - earners, which is sure to raise some eyebrows.

Coventry City's wage bill is the fifth-lowest in the Championship

Only Swansea City, Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic are estimated by Capology to spend less per week on player wages than Coventry. Their figures are £242.5k, £221.5k, £184k and £175k respectively.

The Sky Blues’ weekly payroll is approximately £249k, which equates to £12.95m per year. When comparing this to the apparent highest spenders, Leicester City, the Foxes could afford to pay City's weekly wage bill over three times for the amount they pay theirs for one - £840k.

For Doug King's first season as owner, 23/24, Coventry reported a pre-tax profit of £8.7m earlier this year, which was obviously the time when the club sold both Viktor Gyokeres and Gus Hamer. The BBC reported that the Gyokeres fee was close to £20m, and Mike McGrath claimed the deal to let Hamer go to South Yorkshire was £15m.

Going off the estimated figures by Capology, City are spending more on this season's wages than how much pre-tax profit they made after two prized assets left - which shows just how hard it is for a Championship club to make money and not lose it.

The four Coventry City stars on an estimated £25k-per-week

The highest earners at The CBS Arena this season are estimated to each be on £25k-per-week according to Capology, and there’s four of them.

Luke Woolfenden, Matt Grimes, Ellis Simms, and Haji Wright collectively represent the ones at the top of the club’s estimated salary list. These four individuals represent approximately 40 percent of the club's entire weekly wage expenditure on Capology.

At the lower end of the scale, Milan van Ewijk is estimated to earn £3k-per-week, occupying the apparent second-lowest position in the club's hierarchy. Josh Eccles receives marginally less at £2.5k-per-week, seemingly being at the absolute bottom of Coventry's first-team wage ladder.

Given these numbers, you could make the assumption that Lampard may be getting paid a lot more than the majority of the Sky Blues squad to manage them.

Lampard himself was estimated to be earning £88k-per-week whilst finishing off his playing career at New York City, which is £63k more than the likes of Woolfenden and co.

Ultimately, whilst Coventry spend around £249k-per-week at the top of the table, they are surrounded by sides with substantially larger budgets competing for the same points.
