A look at what David Brooks earns at AFC Bournemouth and how that compares to West Bromwich Albion's wage structure.

West Bromwich Albion are seeking something of a rebuild this summer with Ryan Mason now at the helm as they aim for a sustained promotion challenge back to the Premier League next season.

Albion have been linked with a move for Wales international midfielder David Brooks, as they begin a rebuild that has already seen a few experienced first-teamers depart the club, such as Semi Ajayi, John Swift and Grady Diangana.

27-year-old Warrington-born Brooks, who joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2018 for a fee believed to be in the region of £11.5 million, would be seen as a coup if he was to make the move to The Hawthorns, especially with rumours over the future of Tom Fellows.

However, it would also be a pricey move for Albion to make and, with the help of Capology, Football League World has looked at what Brooks’ reported wage is down on the south coast, and how that compares to the current salary structure in West Bromwich.

What David Brooks’ estimated wage is at Bournemouth

According to Capology, David Brooks is currently on an estimated weekly wage of £50,000 per week, which is the same as teammates Illya Zabarnyo, Antoine Semenyo and Marcos Senesi.

Only six permanently contracted players at the Vitality Stadium are said to earn more than the former Blades attacker, with those six including the likes of star players Justin Kluivert and Evanilson.

In comparison to West Brom, that would make him the highest earner at the club, with the current highest earner being United States international striker Daryl Dike, who reportedly earns £32,308 per week.

In fact, Brooks’ current salary is twice that of anyone else in the Baggies squad, with both Darnell Furlong and Jed Wallace said to be the next highest paid players at the club on £25,000 per week.

Last season, the highest earner in the whole of the Championship was reported to be Middlesbrough striker Kelechi Iheanacho on £75,000 with Leeds United full-back, Junior Firpo, now of Real Betis, on £60,000 per week. After those two, the likes of Pascal Struijk, Aaron Ramsey and Daniel James are next on last season’s list with £50,000 per week deals.

That would mean, barring any pay cut let alone a significant one, Brooks would arrive in the midlands as comfortably their highest earner – and that could be a stumbling block for the Baggies.

A former England youth international, Brooks went on to represent Wales at U21 level before making his senior debut in 2017, scoring five goals in 35 caps for his country to date.

He came through the academies of both Manchester City and Sheffield United before turning professional at Bramall Lane and having a short loan spell at fellow Yorkshire club FC Halifax Town.

Having impressed in just 30 league appearances for the Blades, he made the step up to the Premier League in 2018, and has gone on to make 147 appearances for the Cherries with a loan spell back in the Championship at Southampton during the 2023/24 campaign.

Between October 2021 and May 2022, Brooks underwent treatment for Stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma, returning to football in March 2023.

Any move for Brooks is surely likely to be linked with the potential departure of Fellows, whilst there is also said to be interest in Northern Ireland international Isaac Price.
