When we talk about the GOAT of soccer, the first name that comes to mind is Lionel Messi. So, it is only natural to assume that, even after moving to Inter Miami, he remains one of the highest-paid players in MLS, and certainly one of the highest earners on his team.
We are breaking down his contract, bonuses, and overall earnings. Figures are based on reports, and there are estimates when required.
Lionel Messi earns $28.3 million in guaranteed compensation for the 2026 MLS season, making him by far the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer.
When endorsements and his revenue-sharing agreement with Apple are factored in, Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has stated that Messi's annual earnings rise between $70 million and $80 million.
According to Sports Illustrated:
“Messi also received a signing bonus for joining Miami and will receive equity in the club upon his retirement, a unique feature in the sports contract landscape. This brings the total value of his initial two-and-a-half-year package with Miami to $150 million.”
While also: “Off the field in 2024, Messi earned an additional $79 million thanks to deals with Adidas, Hard Rock International, Apple TV, and others. The latter partnership sees him take a cut of MLS’s $250 million per year deal with the broadcaster.”
As of 2026, Lionel Messi has an estimated net worth of $850 million (£629 million), according to various sources.
That figure positions him as the second-wealthiest active soccer player in the world, behind only his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently achieved billionaire status.
Throughout his career, Lionel Messi has partnered with numerous global brands, most notably securing a lifetime contract with Adidas. His impressive roster of sponsors also includes Pepsi, Lay's, Gatorade, Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, Louis Vuitton, Jacob & Co., and Stanley.
These multiple brands give Messi an estimated $70 million annually. This is far more than he earns with Inter Miami.
With the legendary career Lionel Messi has built, it is no surprise to see figures like these attached to his contract. The former FC Barcelona star has more than earned the right to command this level of salary.
However, those numbers could still change due to new sponsorship deals, as it seems highly unlikely that Messi will sign a new contract with Inter Miami anytime soon after signing to his current deal
