Both teams were relegated from the Premier League last season, but have experienced contrasting fortunes upon their return to the second tier.

The Foxes have failed to pick up points on just a single occasion in their opening nine matches, when they suffered defeat at Deepdale against Preston North End.

Marti Cifuentes’ side enjoyed victories over Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Birmingham City during their opening four matches, before recording a quartet of successive draws.

Leicester currently sit third in the standings, but their inability to convert draws into victories is arguably the only thing preventing them from topping the table at this moment in time.

Ipswich haven’t been able to capture that exact form, as they failed to record a single victory in their opening four matches.

The Tractor Boys have picked up form since then, earning 10 points from their last four contests.

This leaves Kieran McKenna’s side just three points behind Leicester in ninth, with a game in hand due to their abandoned fixture against Blackburn.

In an attempt to boost both of their squads, it has been claimed by footmercato that Leicester and Ipswich are both eyeing up a move for Kamara.

The 29-year-old joined French side Rennes in 2024 from Leeds United, but hasn’t made a single appearance this season and is reportedly free to leave the club in January.

Amid this news, Football League World has taken a look at how much Kamara was being paid during his last stint in English football, which came with Leeds United.

Kamara signed for the Whites in 2023 after enjoying four-and-a-half successful years with Scottish side Rangers, where he helped the Ibrox outfit clinch their 55th league title in the 2020/21 campaign.

The Finland international was a key player in Daniel Farke’s system at Elland Road, making 42 total appearances for the club in his solitary 2023/24 term with them, but was part of the group that were defeated in the Championship play-off final by Southampton.

During his time at Elland Road, Kamara was estimated to be earning £22,500 a week, according to figures from Capology, which must be stressed are an estimate.

Whilst this is quite a large wage for most second-tier teams, 15 players were estimated to be earning more than Kamara at Leeds United during that season, which makes their inability to secure promotion all the more staggering.

Glen Kamara would be a solid buy for Leicester City and Ipswich Town

Although his spell in French football hasn’t worked out perfectly, Kamara has shown in the past that he has the quality to perform in the Championship.

During the 2023/24 campaign, he made 40 second-tier appearances for Leeds United (including play-off games) and his quality in the middle of the park was evident throughout.

This earned him a move to Rennes - where he has also spent time on loan in Saudi Arabia with Al Shabab - but Kamara may soon be back competing in the Championship.

Ipswich and Leicester would be receiving a player with guaranteed second tier quality, which would boost both of their chances of sealing a promotion back up to the Premier League.

He's not a flashy central midfielder, but his stats from his season in the Championship with Leeds really highlight the qualities he would bring to either Leicester or Ipswich's side.

As per FotMob, the Finn recorded a 92.9 per cent passing accuracy, 73.9 per cent long ball accuracy, completed 69.2 per cent of his dribbles and created 39 chances for his teammates.

What Kamara brings is uber-consistent performance levels, and acts as the metronome in midfield, constantly ensuring that the engine room is working smoothly and efficiently.
