According to Teamtalk, all three Championship promotion contenders turned down the opportunity to sign the former Manchester United forward.

The 33-year-old spent the last two seasons competing in the K League, where he contributed 16 goals and seven assists from 60 appearances.

Lingard has not played in English football since 2022/23, where he spent a single season at Nottingham Forest after departing Man chUnited.

Here we use estimated figures from Capology to see what the playmaker was earning during the peak of his career at Old Trafford…

Jesse Lingard’s Manchester United salary

Lingard’s greatest moment in a Man United shirt came when he scored the winning goal in extra time of the 2016 FA Cup against Crystal Palace under Louis van Gaal.

This was his first season as a regular part of the Red Devils’ first team squad, but by 2019/20 he was established as an important part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

The now 33-year-old was on a deal worth £75,000 per week by then, giving him the same salary as Phil Jones.

However, he was far from being the top earner at Old Trafford at that time, which was goalkeeper David de Gea.

The Spaniard was earning £375,000 per week, with Paul Pogba’s £290,000-a-week wages making him the second best paid player at the club.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were other high earners, with the pair being paid £250,000 and £200,000 per week, respectively.

Meanwhile, Harry Maguire’s £190,000-a-week deal rounded out the top five highest wages in Solskjaer’s squad.

Lingard departed Man United in the 2022 summer transfer window after a spell on loan at West Ham, and after he fell down the pecking order of the first team squad at Old Trafford.

Coventry, Ipswich and Middlesbrough’s best paid players

Coventry, Middlesbrough and Ipswich are all contending for automatic promotion this season, but have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Lingard.

None of this trio of clubs have the highest wage bill in the Championship this season, with that honour instead going to Leicester City.

Ipswich are ranked fourth, while Middlesbrough are seventh and the Sky Blues are 15th of the 24 clubs in the second division.

The highest paid player in Kieran McKenna’s side is Dara O’Shea, with the defender earning £35,000 per week, which pales in comparison to Lingard’s salary from his time at Man United.

While the Ipswich boss will know the 33-year-old well from their time together with the Premier League side, the Suffolk outfit still rejected the chance to add him as a free agent amid this promotion push.

Meanwhile, the best paid permanent player at the Riverside this season is Luke Ayling, with the full-back on a deal worth £30,000 per week.

And the highest paid member of Frank Lampard’s squad is a four-way tie between Haji Wright, Matt Grimes, Ellis Simms and Luke Woolfenden.
