It’s been reported by The Star that there are three groups all weighing up a potential bid to purchase the Yorkshire outfit.

It remains to be seen whether a takeover will come to fruition any time soon or not, but supporters would likely be in favour of a change.

Chansiri has become an unpopular figure since his initial purchase of the Owls back in 2015.

Here we take a look at how much the previous owner, Milan Mandaric, earned when he agreed to sell Sheffield Wednesday to Chansiri 10 years ago.

Mandaric initially took charge of Sheffield Wednesday in December 2010, taking over the club just months after they had been relegated from the Championship with a 22nd-place finish.

A deal was agreed that valued the club at just £1, with the Serbian also figuring out deals to wipe away the £30 million owed to creditors.

This was Mandaric’s third move into football ownership in England, previously owning Portsmouth and Leicester City.

However, after five years, he opted to agree to a sale which saw him leave the game entirely.

Chansiri took over the Owls, leading the Thai Union Frozen Group in a deal that earned Mandaric £30 million, according to the Guardian.

In the four or so years that Mandaric was at the helm at Hillsborough, the club climbed back into the Championship with a second-place finish in League One in 2012.

Finishes in 18th and 16th re-established the team in the second tier, with Chansiri taking over midway through the 2014/15 campaign, in which the side ended up coming 13th.

Chansiri has experienced a lot of ups and downs during his time in charge of Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls enjoyed a strong first full season under his ownership, with the team reaching the play-offs in the 2015/16 campaign, coming sixth in the table and beating Brighton in the semi-finals of the play-offs to set up a Wembley showdown with Hull City - a game they would eventually lose 1-0 .

The Yorkshire outfit improved over the next 12 months, finishing fourth in the table, but again missed out on promotion to the Premier League with a loss to Huddersfield Town on penalties, again in the semi-finals.

The club regressed over the next few years, culminating in their relegation back to League One in 2021 with a 24th-place finish in the table.

The Owls were promoted at the second time of asking, through the play-offs, but manager Darren Moore walked away from the team after disagreements with Chansiri over their targets.

Relegation looked inevitable under Xisco Munoz, but Danny Rohl’s arrival as manager led to a revival that saw them finish 20th in the table.

However, financial issues behind the scenes have led to fresh speculation over a change in ownership once again.

It was reported by the BBC that players’ wages went unpaid in March 2025 due to cashflow issues.
