Everton are eyeing a move for Southampton's Tyler Dibling
Everton are in talks with Southampton to complete the signing of Tyler Dibling this summer.
According to Ben Jacobs, there is optimism a deal can be completed between the two clubs after an initial offer worth around £27 million was rejected last week.
However, it has been reported by Alex Crook that their latest improved bid has been rejected, with the Hampshire outfit holding out for a valuation of £40 million.
Dibling enjoyed a standout campaign in the Premier League for the Saints, even with the team suffering relegation back to the Championship.
The 19-year-old contributed two goals from 33 appearances in the top flight, with Southampton coming bottom of the table.
Everton are optimistic of completing a deal to sign Dibling from Southampton after his breakout campaign last year.
It is understood that a package around £35 million has been submitted to try and convince the Saints to cash in on the player.
While it’s believed that there is confidence that a move can be agreed between the two clubs following the Saints’ relegation, it has been reported that Southampton are holding out for up to £40 million.
David Moyes is keen to bolster his side before the new Premier League season gets underway, with the midfielder being targeted.
A £27 million offer was rejected last week, indicating their interest in the player, and they have now returned with an offer closer to the £35 million mark.
Dibling has a contract with Southampton until 2027, but could now have the chance to make the move back to the Premier League this summer.
The Saints will begin their upcoming Championship campaign this weekend with a clash against the newly-promoted Wrexham at St. Mary’s in a 12.30pm kick-off.
Dibling was a standout player for Southampton last year for his ability on the ball, but he still showed a lack of experience in the Premier League and he struggled to perform well consistently.
If they can convince Everton to make a bid worth up to £40 million, then that could be very good business for the Saints.
There is no denying that Dibling has potential to play at a very high level, so it’s no surprise such interest has materialised.
But £40 million coming in could help Will Still reinvest in the squad in multiple areas, which might be more important for sustaining a promotion push this season.
