Ipswich Town will go into the final round of fixtures inside the automatic promotion place

Ipswich Town are in pole position to earn automatic promotion to the Premier League alongside Coventry City.

The Tractor Boys initially took the lead in their crunch clash with Southampton on Tuesday night, but Jack Clarke’s 87th minute strike meant they had to settle for a point after Saints had turned things around.

The 2-2 draw has left Kieran McKenna’s side second in the Championship table going into the final round of fixtures this weekend.

Ipswich are aiming to earn promotion straight back to the Premier League at the first attempt after coming 19th in the table last year, suffering relegation as a result.

The Suffolk outfit came second in 2024, and a win against QPR on the final day will confirm their place in the top two.

Coventry have already clinched top spot, but Millwall and Middlesbrough could still leapfrog their way into second with a win on the final day and results going in their favour.

How much Ipswich will receive from Premier League promotion

Ipswich stand to gain a massive financial boost from sealing automatic promotion this weekend.

The Tractor Boys will reportedly earn £95 million as part of the equal share that all clubs in the top flight receive each year as part of the current broadcasting agreement.

This is split between the domestic and international TV rights, with £31.2 million coming from the likes of Sky Sports and TNT, while broadcasters around the world will contribute £55.7 million.

But that will only make up some of the total income injection they’ll receive by jumping up a division.

Facility fees are also a minor portion of the money Premier League clubs receive, which varies from team to team.

In 2023/24, it ranged from £26.9 million to £9.3 million, so Ipswich should fall somewhere in that range, although likely on the lower side, potentially between £10 and 15 million.

Meanwhile, all Premier League clubs will also receive prize money depending on the final result of their campaign.

The higher up Ipswich can finish next season, the more they stand to make, but last place will still yield a payment of around £110 million.

A 17th place finish will net the Tractor Boys over £120 million, plus guarantee another year of Premier League football, and the income that brings.

This makes for a total of around £215 million that the club will earn if they seal promotion away to QPR this Saturday.

Premier League money would be a huge boost for Ipswich

Ipswich have come up and back down in the last couple of seasons, so they know what kind of impact promotion can have financially.

The money on offer allows the club to attract talent that wouldn’t be possible if they were still in the Championship.

Being able to provide top flight football also makes a switch to Portman Road quite attractive, so the difference in potential signings this summer is massive depending on what division they’ll be in.

Ipswich are in a favourable position to finish second now, and McKenna’s side will be favourites this weekend to earn second given their experience in getting over the line in 2024.
