The Sheffield Wednesday superfan has followed England across America and Mexico in this summer's World Cup

England's dreams of making it to just their second-ever World Cup final were dashed in truly heartbreaking circumstances on Wednesday night, as they conceded two late goals against Argentina to lose 2-1.

Thomas Tuchel's side took the lead early in the second half through Anthony Gordon, but offered little threat afterwards, inviting pressure in a way that may have worked against Mexico and Norway, but not against the reigning world champions.

Indeed, England averaged 12% possession after the opening goal on 55 minutes, and Argentina, who have become somewhat masters of the late late show in America, Canada and Mexico this summer, netted twice in the space of seven minutes to turn the game on its head and put them one step closer to retaining their crown.

It's been a real journey for the Three Lions this summer across the US and in Mexico for that famous Round of 16 win at the Azteca against Javier Aguirre's side, and while it's ultimately been in vain, those out in North America have enjoyed a brilliant month filled with memories.

Other than Andy Milne, who rose to fame during the Qatar World Cup four years ago, the most famous England supporter has to be Sheffield Wednesday fan Tango.

Tango, whose real name is Paul Gregory, follows both the Owls and the Three Lions home and away. If you're not familiar with the name, you'll recognise his demeanour, with him being well known for appearing topless in crowds, no matter the weather.

He's been one of the lucky few who have been able to support England in North America this summer, singing many renditions of Wonderwall and watching the Three Lions make yet another major tournament semi-final - their third in the last four.

Not many England fans felt they were able to join Tango, though, due to the skyrocketing prices of tickets, accommodation and travel in the USA. But according to an interview he did with LadBible, he believes he only spent between £5,000 - £5,500 throughout his six-week holiday.

Tango was part of the top 500 cappers due to his dedication to watching England before the tournament, meaning he was given special 'support entry' tickets to watch each game at just £46 per ticket. That, plus driving across states rather than flying, has kept costs down.

"Originally, we were just going to do three group stage matches, because the prices were absolutely ridiculous," he said. "Then, the FA gave the top 500 cappers these tickets right the way through to the final.

"When we first looked, tickets were going for $7,000-$7,500 each. There is no way we could have afforded that. Horrific prices. People are paying £3,000-£3,500 per match for a ticket. I think one guy paid £7.5k for the last three matches.

"We haven't paid that for the whole tournament, and we've been here coming up to six weeks. I think so far we probably spent about, with everything, five, five and a half grand each."

England return home empty-handed, but Sheffield Wednesday fans have plenty to look forward to next season

Like in 2021, when England were beaten in the final of the Euros despite taking the lead against Italy, Sheffield Wednesday fans will be heading into the following domestic campaign as a League One side, having suffered relegation off the back of a points deduction the year before.

Five years on, though, and there's a lot more optimism surrounding the Owls in the third tier, with the club under fresh ownership who, so far, seem very committed to bringing the sleeping giants back to where they belong.

The Three Lions have one more outing on Saturday in Miami against France in the third-place matchup before fans go home, and then there'll be just three weeks before Tango and co will be back at Hillsborough to open their campaign in the EFL Cup against Bolton Wanderers.

The 2021/22 campaign, following the penalty defeat to Italy, saw Sheffield Wednesday finish fourth and lose in the play-off final. Most Wednesday fans would love for their club to land in the top six once more, but perhaps with a little more joy that surrounds a promotion at the end of it.
