Ipswich Town are looking to secure a loan move from Chelsea for Marc Guiu as Liam Delap closes in on a switch to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Guardian, the Tractor Boys are considering bringing the youngster to Portman Road in order to bolster Kieran McKenna’s attacking options.

The 19-year-old has to really break into Enzo Maresca’s plans in the Premier League club, but he did make three appearances in the top flight last season and impressed in the UEFA Conference League, too.

The Suffolk outfit will want to strengthen their forward options ahead of their Championship return with Delap set to make the move in the opposite direction.

Here, we use estimated figures from Capology to see how much Guiu earns at Chelsea amid his potential switch to Ipswich.

Marc Guiu’s estimated Chelsea wages amid Ipswich Town interest

Guiu made the switch to Chelsea from Barcelona last summer, arriving as a promising young forward with plenty of potential.

It was reported by Eurosport that the Blues paid €6 (£5) million to sign him from the Catalan giants, agreeing a five-year deal until 2029.

Despite still only being 19, and not a major part of Chelsea’s first team plans, the ex-Barcelona starlet is estimated to be earning £50,000 per week at Stamford Bridge.

This is a smaller wage than the average weekly salary at Chelsea, which currently stands at £68,079.

He is also far from being their highest earner, who is Reece James, with the defender receiving £250,000 per week.

The Premier League side spend a total of £3.267 million per week on player wages for the first team squad.

But Guiu is easily the best paid player in the squad under the age of 20, with the likes of Josh Acheaampong (£5,000 per week), Deivid Washington (£20,000), Aarón Anselmino (£15,000), Tyrique George (£7,500), Leo Castledine (£6,000) and Jimmy-Jay Morgan (£3,500) all also in the squad.

However, 20-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka is also earning £50,000 per week, and is considered a youngster with as much first team potential as Guiu.

Ipswich Town’s highest paid player

The highest paid permanent player in the Ipswich squad is currently Axel Tuanzebe, with the defender receiving £40,000 per week.

That means Guiu would become the highest paid player in Kieran McKenna’s team should he arrive.

It remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old would have all of his salary paid by the Tractor Boys, or if Chelsea would be willing to still cover some of the cost as part of any loan deal. Ipswich would likely need Chelsea to front a decent part of his salary in order to complete a deal, mind you.

Other high earners in McKenna’s team include Arijanet Muric and Dara O’Shea, (£35,000 per week each), Ben Johnson and Sam Morsy (£30,000 each), as well as George Hirst (£27,500).

Given Ipswich have suffered relegation to the Championship, it’s difficult to imagine this wage structure changing too much.

While losing Delap will mean earning £30 million in a transfer fee, it’s unlikely this money will be used to increase spending on player wages over the course of the summer.
