Alfie Devine joined Preston North End on loan from Tottenham Hotspur last summer
Alfie Devine made the move from Tottenham Hotspur to Preston North End on loan in the summer.
The 21-year-old made the switch on a temporary basis as he sought regular first team football, which he has duly received under Paul Heckingbottom this season.
The Lilywhites have been unable to sustain a push for a play-off place after a promising first half of the campaign, but the attacking-midfielder has still enjoyed a strong stint on loan.
The youngster has contributed eight goals and two assists from 38 appearances in the Championship, including 29 starts.
This has led to speculation over his future, with Preston holding an option to buy clause as part of their agreement with Spurs.
The London outfit’s own league position is also uncertain, which could yet have an impact on the future of Devine.

It has been reported by the Lancashire Post that Preston will have to pay in the region of £4.5 million to sign Devine on a permanent basis in the summer.
However, it is understood that the player must also agree to the move, and that he is not obliged to sign under the terms of the current agreement.
Chairman Peter Ridsdale has already confirmed that personal terms have been agreed with the youngster.
But the £4.5 million fee is also more than double of the club’s current record transfer, which they achieved when they paid £2 million to sign Callum Lang during the January transfer window earlier this year.
Devine’s future could also be impacted if Spurs are relegated from the Premier League this season, with the team currently 17th in the table.
Igor Tudor’s side are just one point clear of West Ham United in 18th with only seven games remaining.
If the London outfit are in the Championship, then that could open the door to regular first team football with Spurs next season.
Devine’s performances this campaign could also lead to rival clubs showing an interest in the player in the summer, meaning his future remains up in the air.
Preston are currently 13th in the second division table, 11 points adrift of the play-off places with only seven games remaining.
The Lilywhites ended a four game losing run last weekend with a 3-1 victory over Stoke City.
Next up for Heckingbottom’s side will be a clash against relegation-threatened Leicester City on 3 April in a 3pm kick-off.
Devine has been very impressive so far this season, and a deal of £4.5 million could prove worthwhile in the long run.
If the 21-year-old is keen to stay, then it’s a deal that Preston should be looking to get done quickly.
While it is a big outlay for the club compared to their usual business, he is someone with the potential to become a lot more valuable in the future, particularly if he can continue to improve under Heckingbottom.
This is the kind of investment in the squad that could prove very smart, and could help them bridge the gap to teams fighting for a play-off place.
