We look at how much Marcelino Nunez's wages have increased since his controversial move from Norwich City to Ipswich Town.

It was a memorable weekend for Ipswich Town as they secured a 2-0 win over bitter rivals Norwich City at Carrow Road.

After picking up their first East Anglian derby victory in 16 years when they beat Norwich 3-1 at Portman Road in October, Ipswich tasted success at the home of their near neighbours for the first time in more than 20 years, while it was also the first time they had completed the double over the Canaries for 33 years.

Jaden Philogene's penalty and George Hirst's strike sealed all three points for the Tractor Boys, and as well as earning the local bragging rights, it was also a big boost to their automatic promotion hopes as they strengthened their grip on second place in the Championship table.

However, the game was not without controversy, and, as expected, midfielder Marcelino Nunez stole the headlines as he made his first return to Carrow Road since making the move from Norwich to Ipswich in the summer.

It is fair to say that plenty of eyebrows were raised when Nunez joined Ipswich from Norwich in August for an initial fee of £7.2 million, plus a further £2.5 million in achievable add-ons, becoming the first player to make the move between the two clubs since Andy Marshall in 2001.

Nunez has played a key role for the Tractor Boys in their promotion push this season, scoring four goals and providing 10 assists in 33 appearances so far, but while he has received plenty of plaudits for his performances in recent months, he played something of a pantomime villain role on his return to his former club.

The Chilean was greeted by a chorus of boos from the home faithful when he came on as a second-half substitute, and after being booked and giving away two further fouls, he was then taken off just 23 minutes after his introduction, with Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna explaining that he made the decision as the Canaries crowd were "trying to get people sent off".

Having escaped a red card, Nunez certainly enjoyed the celebrations with the travelling supporters after the final whistle, and the game will only have further cemented his status as a firm fan favourite at Portman Road.

As Nunez once again causes a stir in East Anglia, we take a look at how the midfielder's wages have increased since his switch from Norfolk to Suffolk.

How Marcelino Nunez's wages have increased since leaving Norwich City for Ipswich Town

According to Capology, Nunez takes home £22,500-a-week and £1,170,000-a-year at Ipswich, although it should be stressed that those figures are an estimate.

That marks a significant increase of £7,500-a-week and £390,000-a-year from Nunez's salary at Norwich, where he was said to be earning £15,000-a-week and £780,000-a-year.

However, while Nunez has seen a big rise in his wages since making the switch to Portman Road, he is far from the Tractor Boys' highest-paid player, with the likes of Dara O'Shea and Leif Davis (both £35,000-a-week) and Ashley Young, Ben Johnson and Azor Matusiwa (all £30,000-a-week) all receiving substantially more than the 26-year-old.

Christian Walton, Darnell Furlong and George Hirst (all £27,500-a-week) and Jacob Greaves, Jaden Philogene, Anis Mehmeti and Jack Clarke (all £25,000-a-week) are also among those earning more than Nunez, which perhaps shows the financial divide that has opened up between the two East Anglian clubs after Ipswich's recent spell in the Premier League.

However, while the move has been financially lucrative for Nunez, it seems money was not his main motivation for his decision to join the Tractor Boys, with the midfielder explaining last week that he felt he had a better chance of reaching the top flight with his new club.

After their long-awaited victory at Carrow Road on Saturday, Nunez and his Ipswich teammates are a step closer to promotion, and he is unlikely to be having too many regrets about his bold summer move at this stage.
