According to a report from SPORT, Real Madrid’s latest signing, Franco Mastantuono, is set to earn around €3.5 million net per year.

The Argentine midfielder’s salary will place him slightly above players in the third tier of the club’s wage structure.

He is expected to sign a six-year contract that will include a jaw-dropping €1 billion release clause, a clear signal of how much belief the club has in his potential.

Although Mastantuono is still set to play the Club World Cup with River Plate, his long-term future lies with Los Blancos after having completed his medical for the team.

Real Madrid view the 17-year-old as one of their key signings for the 2025/26 season and made a strong move to secure him, especially with Paris Saint-Germain also showing serious interest.

A historic transfer for Argentine football

The deal for Mastantuono is not just significant for Real Madrid, but it is also a record-breaking moment for Argentine football.

While the direct release clause Real Madrid will pay is €45 million, reports from Argentina reveal that the final cost will balloon to around €61 million due to taxes and additional fees.

This makes the operation the most expensive transfer involving an Argentine-based club.

Despite this, Mastantuono will not surpass Enzo Fernandez’s €52.5 million move to Benfica in a straight release clause comparison.

Still, the total outlay makes this the biggest financial commitment from Europe for a talent playing in Argentina.

Meanwhile, Mastantuono will also become the third most expensive South American in Real Madrid’s history, behind only James Rodriguez and Kaka. However, unlike those two, he is joining directly from South America, not via a European club.

Real Madrid clearly believe Mastantuono is worth the gamble, and with such an eye-watering contract and clause, all eyes will be on the young midfielder as he takes his first steps in Europe.
