FLW takes a look at how much Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is estimated to be earning at Derby County after fans feared a January departure.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom has been phenomenal for Derby County this season, and he has quickly pushed himself into contention for the starting place in Sweden's upcoming international fixtures in March.

The 27-year-old has two caps for his country already, and will be hoping to take the gloves for the World Cup play-offs next month as his nation look to put an awful qualifying behind them and earn a place at this summer's tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

However, Zetterstrom is currently suffering from complications after a virus. He has played just once since 17 January, and John Eustace has explained that he is not yet ready to return to the first team, but is back in training with the rest of the squad.

Nevertheless, after such a successful campaign so far, the goalkeeper has already attracted attention from Premier League clubs and there are potentially fears that he could be the subject of significant interest in the summer. Now, Football League World has taken a look at how much he is estimated to be earning at Derby right now.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom's estimated Derby County wage after John Eustace claim

Ahead of the Rams' clash with Watford, Eustace was asked about Zetterstrom's availability. He said (via: BBC Radio Derby): "Jacob is still struggling with his virus. I know there's been lots of people thinking there's been other things going on which is ridiculous.

"He has been a really important part of the squad, but Josh (Vickers) has stepped up. Unfortunately, with Jacob's virus, it has just caused other issues from a contact point of view, which isn't allowing him to fully train properly."

In the summer transfer window, Alan Nixon reported that Premier League side Brentford had shown a £3.5m interest in the Swede, and if a move was to happen later this year, Derby would be spending an estimated £8,500 less per week on wages.

That's according to Capology, who have estimated the Rams' number one to be earning a further £2,125 in bonuses each week, and with just over a year remaining on his contract, the East Midlands outfit will be keen to renew his current deal to ensure his future is at Pride Park.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom has been excellent for Derby County this season

While others have stepped up during Zetterstrom's absence, there's no denying the fact that Derby are a much better defensive unit when they have their number one between the posts and he has been sorely missed by all in DE24.

After a strong but at times shaky 2024/25, he has proven his quality this term and has been one of the Championship's very best goalkeepers. His work with goalkeeper coach Paul Clements has not gone unnoticed, and he has been much better with his feet, as well as claiming high balls.

Derby have valued Zetterstrom at £15m, as per the Daily Mail, but they are not thinking of parting ways with the former Djurgårdens shot-stopper right now.

If his form continues, then he may well be Premier League-bound this summer, but the Rams will be hoping that is with them as they continue in their hunt for a play-off finish this season.
