Palmeiras' seven call-ups began their World Cup campaigns over the past week, with contrasting starts, and all experiencing the tournament for the first time.

According to Globo.com, Flaco López remained on the bench as Argentina beat Algeria 3-0 in a win featuring Lionel Messi. His debut could come on Monday against Austria.

Piquerez and Emiliano Martínez did not feature in Uruguay's opener against Saudi Arabia. La Celeste fell behind then drew level. Next up is Cabo Verde on Sunday at 19:00.

Paraguay opened with a chastening 4-1 defeat to the hosts, the United States, in Los Angeles. Gustavo Gómez played the full 90 but could not contain the opposition.

Ramón Sosa arrived late and logged 11 minutes. Mauricio came on at half-time and struck Paraguay's only goal, and his display could earn a start in round two against Türkiye on Saturday.

Apart from Gómez, only the Colombian attacker completed 90 minutes on debut, as Colombia beat Uzbekistan 3-1 in Mexico City. Arias was not directly involved in the goals but contributed notably in build-up. He should start again on Tuesday against the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
