It's now four consecutive defeats in all competitions for the Pilgrims, who haven't found the back of the net in their last three matches, losing all three of those by two goals to nil.

It was another miserable afternoon for the travelling Green Army, who headed to Adams Park hoping they could get a morale-lifting victory to try and turn their fortunes around in the league, but that wasn't the case.

Wycombe ran out comfortable winners, which led to some ugly scenes at full-time, with Argyle supporters voicing their displeasure at their team's performance, before head coach Cleverley was confronted outside the stadium post match.

The 36-year-old said that the anger towards his team was 'justified' after such a poor performance, and vowed to 'work as hard as we possibly can' to try and turn things around.

Saturday was the chance for Cleverley to get some momentum going after a disappointing patch of league form which included a damaging Devon derby defeat last Thursday.

However, the match was a source of yet more pain for Plymouth, as they barely laid a glove on their opponents, mustering just a single shot on target all game, and crashing out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle after a Cauley Woodrow second-half brace.

The scenes at full-time weren't pretty, as goalkeeper Conor Hazard and striker Lorent Tolaj went over to try and reason with the furious away end, but were eventually pulled away by their teammates.

Cleverley was then confronted outside the stadium by supporters in a more calm manner, and explained that he felt the frustration at his side's performance was 'justified'.

In a video which emerged on social media, an Argyle fan can be heard asking the head coach: "What are we going to change it around, Tom?", to which he responded, "Work as hard as we possibly can."

Cleverley then went on to say, "With our performances, it's justified to be frustrated," before saying "I'm big enough to take that," when asked about the unsavoury scenes at the end of the match.

Huddersfield Town match is a must-win fixture for Plymouth Argyle and Tom Cleverley

A run of five consecutive away games couldn't have come at a worse time for Argyle, and yesterday's defeat meant that three of those five have gone down as defeats.

However, all eyes will now turn to next Saturday's clash at Huddersfield Town, who are also in a similar predicament to Plymouth with their recent struggles, and the pressure on their manager Lee Grant.

Cleverley has been publicly backed by his board, but the pressure from the Argyle fanbase is certainly still being felt, which was evident with the ugly post-match scenes on Saturday.

With both clubs desperate for a win, Saturday's trip to the Accu Stadium feels like a must-win for the Pilgrims, and is potentially their best chance at laying the foundations to galvanize themselves once again.
