The board at La Liga giants Real Madrid utilised quotes on the part of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo to defend Jude Bellingham in the aftermath of his recent red card.

That’s according to Marca, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.

Midfielder Bellingham of course today discovered the extent of his punishment for a dismissal during Real’s weekend meeting with Osasuna.

En route to a 1-1 draw at El Sadar, the England international was given his marching orders late in the first-half, for comments directed at referee José Munuera.

In Munuera’s post-match report, he detailed:

‘In the 40th minute, Bellingham was sent off for the following reason: For addressing me, being just a few metres away, in the following terms: “F**k you”.’

Bellingham, for his part, firmly denied as much, adamant that he had in fact said ‘f**k off’, a frustrated outburst rather than a direct insult.

And in their efforts to convince La Liga of as much, Real Madrid leaders laid out previous comments on the part of the aforementioned Cristiano Ronaldo on the matter.

As per a report from Marca:

‘Madrid provided public statements from 2018 by Cristiano Ronaldo, “who played a large part of his professional career in England” and who claims that “f**k off” is commonly used by English players, among other groups, on the pitch, without this entailing any disciplinary sanction by the referees as it is not an offensive or disparaging expression”.’
