Bristol City will need to find a replacement for Liam Manning ahead of his switch to Norwich City
Rob Edwards is interested in taking over at Bristol City as a potential replacement for Liam Manning ahead of his impending Norwich City switch.
According to ITV journalist Ross Arnott, the ex-Luton Town boss is interested in becoming the latest head coach at Ashton Gate.
The 42-year-old is currently out of work following his departure from the Hatters in January.
While his side struggled in the Championship this year, he did previously guide Luton to the Premier League, where they finished 18th.
It has been reported that Edwards is interested in replacing Manning at Bristol City this summer.
It has been claimed that Manning’s move to Carrow Road is all but done, with the Robins’ manager set to make the switch to the team’s Championship rivals.
It’s believed that the 39-year-old’s move to the Canaries has been done amicably and that there are no hard feelings over the move to a club in the same division.
Luton went on to suffer relegation following Edwards’ dismissal in the new year, with Matt Bloomfield unable to prevent the drop into League One.
Manning earned a lot of plaudits for his work with Bristol City, with the team reaching the play-off semi-finals last season with a sixth place finish in the table.
It was reported by The Telegraph earlier this month that the Norfolk outfit will be £800,000 in compensation to the Robins in order to capture Manning’s arrival.
Edwards took charge of Luton in November 2022 following Nathan Jones’ move to Southampton.
He guided the team to a third place finish in the Championship, earning promotion to the Premier League with a play-off final win over Coventry City.
The coach earned a lot of praise for his work with the team in the top flight, despite the club suffering relegation.
But a poor start to life back in the Championship led to his dismissal midway through the season.
Losing Manning is obviously not ideal for Bristol City given how well he did to get the club into the play-offfs and competing for promotion.
But Edwards has the potential to be a solid replacement, if he can replicate the work he achieved during the start of his time at Kenilworth Road.
There is some risk involved in bringing him in, as the end of his time with Luton was quite concerning.
However, the team’s struggles under Bloomfield does highlight that perhaps the coach wasn’t wholly to blame for their poor results last season.
