Football League World takes a look at how on-loan Sheffield United midfielder Kalvin Phillips nets some eye-watering sums of money outside of football

Kalvin Phillips is now attempting to rebuild his career after returning to the Championship in the winter transfer window by joining Sheffield United on loan from Manchester City.

The 30-cap England international has endured a steep career decline since leaving boyhood club Leeds United to sign for Man City in a reported £45 million deal in the summer of 2022, having not featured for his nation in over two years.

Phillips, who emerged as one of the standout stars at Elland Road during Marcelo Bielsa's successful reign in charge, struggled to establish himself under Pep Guardiola and has made just 16 Premier League appearances for City in nearly four years, twice leaving the Etihad Stadium for mixed loan stints with West Ham United and Ipswich Town before heading back to Yorkshire in February.

His time at Bramall Lane is yet to play out according to plan, either, with the midfielder yet to feature after being sent off and subsequently sustaining a muscle injury in the Blades' 2-1 Steel City derby victory over rivals Sheffield Wednesday two months ago.

He could be to return to action before the end of the season, though, and reports in recent weeks have revealed a willingness from both the player and club to make his stay in the Steel City permanent once the summer rolls around as the 30-year-old prepares to enter the final year of his contract with Man City.

Reportedly remaining on a weekly contract worth £150,000 with Guardiola's side - with the majority of those wages still being covered by the eight-time Premier League champions throughout his third loan move away from the club - Phillips has continued to reap the monetary rewards from the game despite struggling for form and regular minutes in recent years.

Now, however, it has also emerged that Phillips is netting some lucrative sums outside of football too - and Football League World has taken a look at how exactly that is the case.

How Kalvin Phillips earns £1.3 million each year away from football

A fresh report from The Sun has detailed how Phillips has married his on-pitch earnings with a healthy cash influx away from it.

The Sheffield United loan man's stock may have fallen somewhat now, but he remains a hugely marketable presence with evident commercial appeal, having signed a number of lucrative deals across his career - including one with Adidas.

Recently-revealed accounts for the ex-England international's image rights firm, KP23 Ltd, display that he is earning a staggering total of £1.3 million annually away from football.

Over the last five years, Phillips' total off-pitch earnings are said to be around the £5 million mark as he nets an average of more than £100,000 per game away from his regular salary.

Accounts also detail the nature of the business interests of KP23 Ltd includes buying and selling of own real estate, other letting and operating of own or leased real estate or other business support service activities.

Kalvin Phillips could be set for steep earnings decrease if permanent Man City exit is sealed

Phillips is poised to make a big decision on his future this summer, which evidently lies away from Man City with just a year remaining on his current deal.

That contract is the biggest of his kind that Phillips could receive domestically, with a move elsewhere sure to incur a drastic decrease in earnings in line with his fallen stock and the sort of level that the ex-Leeds star now finds himself at.

Both Phillips and Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder are seemingly eager to broker a new, permanent deal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, but the Blades are set to tighten their own financial purse-strings moving into a first season without receiving parachute payments and may struggle to present a lucrative contract on the table.

Phillips, of course, may be able to rest assured in the knowledge that his off-pitch earnings can compensate for a reduced salary on the field, and getting out of his Man City contract and netting less money elsewhere might just be the best way for his career to be revitalised.
