It was confirmed on Monday that the Owls have been docked another six points by the EFL, on top of the 12 they had removed in October for going into administration, due to their failure to meet obligatory payments.

The Thai businessman oversaw the financial mismanagement of the Yorkshire outfit, which included players and staff not being paid on time on multiple occasions through 2025.

Begbies Traynor have been appointed as administrators, and they are now seeking a new owner for Sheffield Wednesday.

Chansiri has also been banned from becoming an owner or director at an EFL club for the next three years as punishment for his role in the club’s financial issues.

Valery has claimed that Chansiri should be the one receiving punishment for the club’s financial issues, instead of the players themselves being impacted by points deductions.

He intimated that the Thai businessman deserves to be hit with some form of punishment because he is the one that has put the Owls in this position, and that the first team squad have done nothing wrong.

"As a French person I don't understand this rule because you're punishing players for something that we didn't do as a club," said Valery, via The Yorkshire Post.

"It's not our fault and it's killing us. But that's how it is in England and you have to take it.

“Maybe in France it's the same but I've never seen it.

"We all know who created this problem so for me you have to (only) punish him. They're punishing the whole club, players and fans, for something we had no control over."

Sheffield Wednesday are rooted to the bottom of the Championship table, with a total of minus 10 points, leaving them 27 adrift of safety after just 18 games played.

Henrik Pedersen’s side have won just one game, and are all but certain to suffer relegation to League One this season.

The Yorkshire outfit will be hoping that a new owner can come in as quickly as possible to begin the process of turning things around at Hillsborough.

Next up for Sheffield Wednesday is a trip to face Blackburn Rovers on 6 December in a 3pm kick-off.

Sheffield Wednesday are at least clearing their points deductions now

If Sheffield Wednesday had their 18 points reinstated, they’d still be in the relegation zone and at serious risk of being relegated.

It is perhaps an issue in the rules that players are left with docked points while the owner at fault for the financial issues is nowhere to be found, but it does also prevent chicanery where someone could sell the club to an associated party without any sporting penalty.

It’s an imperfect system, and there should be some solutions found that can prevent a situation like the one at Hillsborough.
