As Manor Solomon closes in on a move to West Ham, it has been revealed how Tottenham Hotspur tried to prevent the winger's switch across London

West Ham are on the verge of landing Manor Solomon's signature ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 Championship campaign, and a surprise new update has revealed exactly how Tottenham Hotspur tried and failed to prevent the winger from moving across London.

The Hammers are poised to conduct much of their business in the dying embers of the summer transfer window, having only snapped up Joel Veltman while making Keiber Lamarid's loan move a permanent one to date alongside retaining a host of stars and selling the likes of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville in blockbuster exits from the London Stadium.

A number of high-profile signings are expected in East London before the window is up, though, and with deals being separately pursued for both Arne Engels and Troy Parrott of Celtic and AZ Alkmaar respectively, Nuno Espirito Santo is set to add Solomon to his ranks in preparation for the new campaign.

But, if Spurs were able to have their way, a fresh update has indicated that there is every chance the ex-Leeds United wide-man would be remaining with Roberto De Zerbi's side as opposed to dropping to the Championship for the second time in his career.

West Ham have pushed hard to sign Solomon and they are now closing in on landing their man, with journalist Ben Jacobs reporting via X that the 27-year-old is set to undertake medical proceedings today ahead of an initial £5 million switch to the Championship promotion hopefuls - which could rise to £7 million.

Though Solomon's impending exit may not come as too much of a surprise after spending the last two seasons away from the Lilywhites on loan with Leeds, Villarreal and Fiorentina, De Zerbi had intended to retain his services.

That's according to a report from Israel Hayom, which has claimed that Spurs "didn't give up" in their efforts to keep hold of Solomon.

The 49-cap Israeli international previously featured under De Zerbi during his formative years with Shakhtar Donetsk and the pair are said to have maintained contact ever since, with the Italian having even tried to reunite with him when in charge of Marseille.

As per the report, De Zerbi's appointment in March had offered hope to Solomon and his representatives due to their prior relationship in Ukraine.

Indeed, De Zerbi promised Solomon a "real chance" in pre-season and would start the West-Ham-bound winger in all four of his side's friendlies against MK Dons, Auckland FC, Sydney FC and Chelsea, although such efforts have ultimately proved fruitless as a switch to the second-tier looms.

Why Manor Solomon is joining West Ham despite Spurs' efforts

Despite De Zerbi's show of faith and provision of game-time during pre-season, Solomon has elected to leave Spurs for good three years after arriving from Shakhtar.

He only ever made a handful of competitive appearances for the club, all of which came in an injury-plagued debut campaign, and will now look to relaunch his career in the Championship with West Ham.

Solomon has been eager to depart Spurs for some time, and his agent made a public declaration of his desire to head towards the exit door last month. The winger will be primed to land a leading role at the London Stadium, which wouldn't have been possible at Spurs as De Zerbi bids to bolster his wide options in the remainder of the window amid links to the likes of Cody Gakpo and Savinho.

Family reasons have also influenced Solomon's willingness to remain in London, and should reports that he is set to collect a similar salary to what he's already on at Spurs be believed, then it's arguably not too difficult to see why the ex-Fulham loan man has jumped at the opportunity to help spearhead the Hammers' promotion bid out of the Championship.

Manor Solomon will be West Ham's Crysencio Summerville replacement

Solomon is lined up to represent a direct replacement for the aforementioned Summerville, who, rather ironically, he actually replaced at Leeds when he moved to Elland Road on loan for the duration of the 2024/25 campaign.

It proved a memorable season for both player and club as Daniel Farke's side romped to the Championship title with a triple-digit point haul and, on an individual level, Solomon was instrumental by weighing in with 10 goals and 12 assists from 39 league appearances.

West Ham will hope that level of impact can be replicated after sanctioning Summerville's stunning £68 million move to Al-Hilal last month, and in Solomon, they have recruited a winger who has previously shown how influential he can be in a title-chasing Championship side.

Most at home on the left-hand side, Solomon significantly strengthens Nuno's forward options with the new term now less than a week away and could prove an astute replacement for Summerville.
