Sunderland’s summer remains quiet on major signings, yet rumours swirl as Regis Le Bris plans for Europe after a seventh-place Premier League finish. According to Sunderland Echo, those links hint at a possible 2026/27 XI if some targets land.
Robin Roefs, outstanding in his first campaign, looks the likely number one. He has been linked with a move, but for now appears set to stay.
At the back, free agent Oscar Mingueza is on the radar after leaving Celta Vigo, with Newcastle and Aston Villa also mentioned. Omar Alderete and Dan Ballard would partner centrally, while Trai Hume could be in the captaincy frame if Chelsea pursue current skipper Granit Xhaka.
On paper, that could mean Roefs behind Mingueza, Alderete, Ballard and Hume, a midfield of Arthur Avom, Noah Sadiki and Arne Engels, and Chemsdine Talbi and Enzo Le Fee supporting Brian Brobbey.
Avom impressed for Lorient and is a 14-times capped Cameroon international linked with a move. Sadiki excelled after joining from Union Saint-Gilloise, then made DR Congo’s World Cup squad.
Talbi’s pace yielded 4 goals and 2 assists in the league, and he has featured as Morocco reached the last 16. Le Fee’s loan turned permanent after promotion, and his energy should be vital.
Brobbey led the line well and returns buoyed by an eye-catching World Cup with the Netherlands, despite an earlier-than-hoped exit. That club-and-country form could carry into the new season.
