The FFF and its president Philippe Diallo are set to drop backing for FIFA president Gianni Infantino ahead of the 18 March election in Rabat, Morocco.

According to L'Équipe, the FFF executive committee is expected to confirm the shift on Thursday morning, removing, barring a shock, all support for Infantino’s bid for another term.

Diallo, a member of UEFA’s executive committee, has followed the European body’s hostile line towards Infantino and has criticised what he regards as solitary governance.

Infantino remains a candidate despite the storm triggered in the middle of the summer by his plan to cede shares of the World Cup to private funds controlled by associates of the US president Donald Trump.

France’s stance for the election had long seemed clear, and the committee move would simply formalise it.
