For the sixth time in a row we are in the UEFA Champions League, with some new features this year!
A new league mode is replacing the old group stage. Each team will be drawn with eight different opponents, with each side getting four home and four away matches. At the end of the eight matches, there will be an overall table of all 36 participating teams. The top eight will make the last 16, with those placed ninth to 24 making a two-leg play-off round for the final spots in the first knockout stage. Another new feature - after getting knocked out of the Champions League, there is no more 'dropping down' to the UEFA Europa League as was previously the case for third-placed teams. The league phase does run until the end of January, however. You can read more about the draw for the league phase, which will be conducted by a computer on Thursday, and the opponents we might face, here:
All the information on ticket sales for our UEFA Champions League home matches will follow soon after the draw. All season-ticket holders can look forward to a priority purchase right according to the 'loyalty pays' motto.
During the league phase, Sky Sport Austria will show 17 of 18 matches in each Champions League week. Streaming service CANAL+ has exclusive rights to show one match on Wednesday evenings. Fans over the German border can see the UEFA Champions League group phase on DAZN and Amazon Prime.
