Yankuba Minteh’s future remains unresolved as the transfer deadline approaches, though it would not be a major surprise if he stays with Albion into September.
Liverpool want The Gambia winger and head coach Andoni Iraola has signalled a need to strengthen out wide. He has been the subject of offers from Anfield, yet the pursuit has cooled, according to Sky Sports.
Albion have already completed two hallmark sales this summer, Jan Paul van Hecke to Spurs for £52 million and Carlos Baleba to Manchester United for up to £70 million. Danny Welbeck’s switch to Chelsea was significant but did not fit that usual model.
It would be unusual to sanction so many big exits in one window, and it is likely Minteh is a player they did not envisage selling this summer. The club have shown they can say no when not ready to lose a talent, notably with Baleba last summer.
The asking price is said to be £80 million, with Liverpool having gone to £60 million. Albion will also be aware the Reds appear to have more than £100 million to spend on PSG’s Bradley Barcola.
Minteh is expected to be sidelined for several weeks with an ankle injury sustained in the friendly against Roma.
