Arsenal have won all their last seven games including a 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. They also scraped a win at St James’ Park against Newcastle thanks to a 96th minute winner from Gabriel Magalhaes. The last time they failed to win was their 1-1 draw against Manchester City in September.
Brighton’s form this season has been very up and down. In their last six matches, they have had big wins over Newcastle and Chelsea but also drawn against Wolves at Molinuex and lost 4-2 to Manchester United.
Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Brighton and former Arsenal man Danny Welbeck ahead of the clash.
Very happy for Welbeck,” he said. “We were teammates and the whole history of him, the good and the difficult moments he has had in his career, I think it’s remarkable what he’s doing.
“The same with the team and Fabian [Hurzeler] and the coaches, the continuous work that they’ve done at that club is incredible.
“I think Fabian has added something slightly different and has a very well-prepared team, very difficult to beat them, you’ve seen the results against the big teams as well. So we expect a really tough match.”
Fabian Hurzeler insists that the table does not lie and noted how tough the tie will be against the Premeir League leaders.
“The table tells the truth so they’re doing well. Out of possession and with set pieces they are very good so I think these are two main factors in what makes them successful.
“They are very disciplined. I think everyone attacks the box. Everyone defends the box. It will be a big challenge for us in terms of dealing with those set pieces.”
