Final group game a must-win for Diego Simeone’s side

Atletico Madrid head into their final Club World Cup game knowing that they need a win in order to progress.

Diego Simeone’s side are third in Group A, but are still reeling from their heavy 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on matchday one.

Atleti are sat behind group leaders and today’s opponents Botafogo - who are perfect having defeated Seattle Sounders and Paris in their last two games - and the Champions League holders.

Seattle are out after their two losses to Botafogo and Atleti respectively.

The La Liga outfit beat the MLS franchise 3-1 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, on Thursday thanks to goals from Pablo Barrios, Axel Witsel, while Albert Rusnak spoiled Jan Oblak’s clean sheet.

Now, Atleti know that it is win or bust if they are to qualify for the knockout stages. If they do beat Botafogo and Paris defeat Seattle, then who goes through between the Brazilians and the Spaniards will come down to goal difference.

Atleti are on -2, with Botafogo on +2. Should Atleti defeat Botafogo by a two-goal margin, they would advance on goals scored.
