The match will be the Catalan side’s first Champions League semi-final since their 3-0 first-leg victory was overturned by Liverpool at Anfield in 2019.

Recent form

Barcelona come into this tie following an enthralling Copa del Rey final where a goal from Jules Kounde late into extra-time was enough to see off Real Madrid. The Catalan side were losing with ten minutes to go but a late fight-back meant that it was them who lifted the trophy. The last round of the Champions League saw Barca survive a second-leg hat-trick from Serhou Guirassy to beat Borussia Dortmund 5-3 on aggregate. That was their only defeat since 21 December.

Inter’s form has not been so good. They have lost their last three fixtures and now sit three points behind Napoli at the top of the Serie A. Their 3-0 home loss against rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-finals was a resounding blow and Roma also managed to beat the Nerazzurri 1-0 at the San Siro this past weekend.

What’s been said?

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was full of praise for Inter but believes that the win against Real Madrid gave his side an extra boost going into the semi-final.

“What I can say is that all the players are focused and want to reach the final,” he said.

“The win against Madrid is important for our emotions and can help us keep pushing. I think we can reach the final. They’ll give it their all too.

“Inter will be very difficult; they’re one of the best defences in Europe.”

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi believes that his side can bounce back from their poor run of form and insisted: “The last week does not wipe out the work we’ve done for four years.

“We had to do better in the last three games, but after four years, here we are competing for all of our goals, when some said that it would be hard to get into the top four in Italy.”

The Italian still backs his squad going into the game against Barcelona: “You will never hear me speak badly of my boys or of the club. It is thanks to them that we have been able to do well over the last four years, going beyond all expectations.”
