Pep Guardiola takes his Manchester City side to the south coast this afternoon with the champions eager to steady themselves after a stuttering start to the campaign. Brighton, meanwhile, are searching for momentum under Fabian Hurzeler and will view this fixture as a true measure of progress.
City opened their Premier League campaign in ruthless fashion, dismantling Wolves 4-0, but that authority was swiftly challenged when Tottenham left the Etihad with a 2-0 victory. Guardiola has never hidden his expectation for consistency and will demand a sharper edge from his players as they head into a difficult away assignment.
Brighton currently sit 18th in the table and early results have not inspired, with a 2-0 defeat at Everton followed by a 1-1 draw with Fulham. However, a 6-0 Carabao Cup win over Oxford United provided much-needed confidence. Hurzeler rotated heavily for that tie, ensuring his senior players are prepared for what will be an altogether sterner challenge against City.

New signing Stefanos Tzimas scored twice against Oxford but Hurzeler is wary of over-exposure, saying: “There are different demands in a Premier League game than the game today. He (Tzimas) came into a game where it was already 3-0 so it’s not the intensity you can expect in a Premier League game.”
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event, with coverage beginning at 1pm BST ahead of the 2pm kick-off. For those preferring digital access, subscribers can follow the game online via the Sky Go app and website, or through Now TV.
Both sides enter with contrasting ambitions, City aiming to reassert themselves as champions, Brighton striving to turn promise into points.
