Recent form

Chelsea’s recent form has been uninspiring. They have won two of their last six games, against Lincoln and Benfica. Even those games were not convincing victories and certainly not strong performances. Maresca will be hoping for an encouraging showing in their third home game in a week.

Liverpool have won five of their six league games and are two points clear of Arsenal at the summit but in the last six days they have lost to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.

What’s been said?

Maresca on Liverpool’s strength: “I consider them the best team in England at the moment. They showed that, they won the Premier League. Where we are in this moment, we’re improving, we’re trying to solve problems, find solutions. At the end, we’re going to be there – close.”

Slot has backed Giorgi Mamardashvili to replace the injured Alisson: “We’ve seen against Southampton how well he has adjusted. We knew we were bringing in a very good goalkeeper but when he plays his first game it’s always the best way of seeing if he’s adjusted well or not.

“He’s a quality goalkeeper and now he can do what Kelleher had to do so many times in the past, replacing Alisson, hopefully in a way like he did so many times before.”
