England and Argentina will renew one of international football’s fiercest rivalries on Wednesday night with a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on the line.
Thomas Tuchel’s side booked their place in the last four with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Norway, thanks to a Jude Bellingham brace, while Argentina secured a dramatic 3-1 extra-time victory over Switzerland.
With Spain already awaiting the winners in the final after defeating France, both nations know they are just one victory away from competing for football’s biggest prize.

Jordan Henderson looks set to be the only player missing for England with the arm injury he suffered in the aftermath of the win over Mexico. Declan Rice is fit having recovered from illness.
Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni is believed to have a fully fit squad available to choose from.

Thomas Tuchel’s side opened the tournament with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia, were then held to a 0-0 draw by Ghana, and secured first place in the group with a 2-0 win over Panama.
England edged DR Congo 2-1 in the round of 32 thanks to a Harry Kane brace before beating Mexico 3-2 in the round of 16. They then booked their place in the last four with another 2-1 victory over Norway, with Jude Bellingham scoring both goals.
Argentina topped their group with three wins from three games but needed extra time to edge past Cape Verde 3-2 in the round of 32 before coming from behind to beat Egypt 3-2 in the round of 16. They were pushed to extra time again in the quarter-finals but eventually overcame Switzerland 3-1, booking a semi-final meeting with England.
England boss Tuchel: “You cannot just say it’s just another football match. But as a coach we do exactly that.
“We don’t speak about the historic moments, we don’t speak about the iconic moments. It is big enough and the tension is big enough.
“The magnitude of the match is just what it is.”
Argentina boss Scaloni: “What this team has achieved is historic. Maybe we could have played better, but reaching another World Cup semi-final is not easy. We are happy, excited and we will try to go all the way.”
