NJ/NY Gotham FC had entered the CONCACAF W Champions Cup in good form. They were unbeaten in their last five NWSL games, winning four of them. There were high hopes that the ladies could compete for their second Champions Cup trophy, but unfortunately, their hopes were destroyed. Club América Femenil came to play in the semifinals, and a 4-1 win for them has the Bats now playing in the third-place match.
As a result, Gotham FC will face C.F. Pachuca Femenil this weekend. The Liga MX Femenil side lost to the Washington Spirit in a closely fought battle. Despite outshooting and maintaining more possession, they could not score, ultimately leading to their loss. The NJ/NY side knows it will not be an easy game. While they will not win another trophy, at the very least, a win would mean that they finish in third place.
Still, the performance on Wednesday was rough. Gotham did not play like a team that can compete with the best of the best. It probably did not help, though, that Ann-Katrin Berger was injured at the end of the first half. She suffered an abdominal injury that required a trip to the hospital. The exact injury and the severity are unclear. Thankfully, the Bats have solid goalkeeper depth. Plus, the summer break in June is almost here.
It would be great for Gotham FC to get the win. At the same time, perhaps this would be a great opportunity for those who rarely start to play in the third-place game. After all, the Bats have talented players on the bench. When all is said and done, this match truly does not matter.

Fans can follow the game on Gotham’s social media accounts, the NWSL feed on the NWSL website, and other websites like ESPN.com.
Pachuca is one of the better teams in Liga MX Femenil. They finished the Clausura of this season in fourth place, going 9-4-4 in those 17 fixtures. They also made the semifinals of their postseason tournament. Gotham FC knows that this will not be a walk in the park.
