How to watch Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit in the Queens Classic | OneFootball

The day is finally here.  Since the announcement, many fans have circled the match between NJ/NY Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit.  The reason is baseball.  The two teams will face off at Citi Field in an event that has been deemed the Queens Classic.  It has been well advertised by the Bats that there is a chance that the record for the highest attendance at a women’s sporting event in New York City could be broken.

At this moment, over 40,000 tickets have been sold, which would break the record set by Coco Gauff’s 2023 U.S. Open win.  It would not be the highest attended NWSL match, for Denver Summit FC holds that record.  But it would surpass Gotham FC’s record of 15,569 fans from the quarterfinals of the 2024 NWSL Playoffs.

Nevertheless, there is a game that must be played, and the NJ/NY side has another tough test ahead of them.  The Washington Spirit is currently in second place and has won their last three NWSL matches.  As fans know, since Gotham’s awful showing in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup knockout games, the team has won two of their last three NWSL fixtures.  This includes this past Friday’s win over Utah Royals FC.

So, if the home team can get a win, then there is no doubt that they can compete with the top NWSL teams.  Even if they do not win, then that will still be up for debate based on results against other sides toward the top of the table.  Of course, with such a big crowd attending the Queens Classic, Gotham FC will want to win.

Final notes

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is still going on, and one of the semifinal matches will be played before the Queens Classic.  Gotham FC is hosting a watch party, so fans can show up to Citi Field at 2:30 PM to watch the match.  Note that it is not clear where the screening will take place, but one can assume that it will be where the Footy Fest is being held outside of the ballpark.
